router for lan party gaming

im trying to get lan set up i have the router and ethernet cords.
trying to play age of empires on lan but local lan will not show any games on program when hosted. yes i have ethernet cord from computer to router in slote one and same with computer two in slote 2 and so on. the firewalls are down. any ideas what i need to do would help me a lot! thank you

check to make sure all computers are on the same sub net
check for mac and IP address conflict
use cane and able to see if other computers can see the host this would help you determine weather there is a network problem or a problem with the service serving the game.
